The script /root/s16 is just: #!/bin/sh exec startx -- -bpp 16 This starts up X windows as me, so my .xinitrc file is run, etc. In order for the 'open' command to work in the /root/xup you may need to free up a virtual console (one additional console besides the one display X is needed.) To do this just comment out the entry for '7' in /etc/inittab: # Run gettys in standard runlevels 1:12345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1 2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2 3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3 4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4 5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5 6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6 # #free up a virtual console # #7:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty7 From now on every time you reboot X windows will automatically start up as the designated user. -- Erik E.
