If anybody has any help hints I can be emailed at : panther@novanet.net.au. You can do this by putting open command into you /etc/rc.d/rc.local file, which would open some free virtual console and start any textbased application like open su user -c sc or alternately, you can put there su user -c "startx" Note that you should run this file as ordinary user, not root, becouse root have too much rights. And if logging in is too complicated for this user, you definitely want protect your configuration files from accidents. With this setup you'll have X session which got open on some virtual console without login process (you should set up this X session very carefully to avoid possible accidents) and normal login process on all other text-based consoles, where you can log in as root and configure system. I'd strongly suggest this even if you are that very user. I, for instance, am avoiding logging in as root as much as possible. : Kind Regards : Panther
