have you linked the device (modem) to the ports ? if you have not it will
not respond
try in the /dev/ dir
ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/modem
or ttyS1 whatever your modem is on
the Linux install will automaticlly assign the ports to there relative
(devices) ttyS0 etc...
so all you should have to do is create the link between the two as above
