I'm a windows user (currently using Windows Me). I'm trying to install Red
Hat Linux 6.2 but there's a BIG problem.
I've one harddisk (IBM 20.1Gb). I've put it into 4 equal partition with 5Gb
each. Once I put in the Linux CD-Rom and try to install it. An error message
pop out every time, which say : "...device hda is not partition porperly...
no such file or directory."
I've try to re-partition to almost any combination ( 5x4Gb, 2x10Gb, etc) The
only case work (to go through the problem) is when there's no partition at
all, which I mean only one primary drive with 20Gb.
But I can't just purly switch to Linux, I still need Windows for others jobs
to be done.
Please HELP.

Have you tried to leave like 5GB of space unpartitionned?
Anyway, now that your harddisk is empty, you can install Linux on a 5 GB
partition
(I cannot imagine you will need more space). Then you use fdisk to make
DOS
partitions and install window$ on that partition.
There is one thing that you need to remember, though: windows thinks its
the
only OS out there, and will destroy your Boot Record. Then you cannot
boot linux
any more. So you will need to make a linux bootdisk first and then use
the floppy
to boot to linux. Once you are in linux, you can use lilo (LInux LOader)
for
booting. With lilo, you have a menu asking you what OS to boot, and you
can type
stuff like 'windows' or 'linux' and it will boot. If you want to know
how to use
lilo, type 'man lilo' when you are under Linux or read the
documentation.
Or if you are lazy, just keep on using the floppy :)

I want to explain you my own experience what I do is I install win98 or
whatever and after that I install Partition Magik and you and you have to
configure all the spaqce needed to linux like unformatted ok??
After that, you run the linux installer and configure the linux partition
with the defaults programs of the cd.

That's is what I do I expect help you

Good luck

Dont forget that u need to format the partitions too. Just partitioning the
drive isnt enough, it needs to be Linux formated or else it's still a DOS
(windows) partition. This must be done with the Linux fdisk util which should be
on the Linux installation disk.
