Howdy folks: Short and simple question here- I just picked up Red Hat 6.1 and I have an old CTX monitor (cvp-5468). I installed and the best display seems to want to magnify the GNOME screen. It looks huge and horrible. I went all the place looking for drivers but can find nothing. Any help?

When you start xwindows, try pushing control/alt/+ at the same time. That is the kb shortcut to turning the res up. If that dosen't work, try running xconf from the command prompt and try setting the resolution a little bit higher and/or try using the generic monitor setting. I have problems with xwindows working right when i installed, but after i ran xconf again, it worked right. Just remember, YOU CAN SMOKE YOUR MONITOR IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL!!!!!! if you startx and your screen looks wierd hit control/alt/bkspace quick to exit out of xwindows and run xconf again. You might have to do it more than once before you get it right. Yes you must be careful with the refresh rates! they'll smoke a monitor pretty bad. Don't trust the installer to get it right, that is why booting to the graphics window option is dangerous, lost my install a few times because of that and didn't know about the kb short cost to quit out of the xwindows program. My latest machine is an old clunker and the video card won't work in the 6.2 installer, but I know it's settings so I set it and then when all is done installing I can get into xwindows fine. The trick is I set the CTX-1451 default refresh rates about 10 Hz (s)lower (on both) other wise the thing wigs out and the screen doesn't appear at all). 1Iwillie wrote: > Howdy folks: > Short and simple question here- I just picked up Red Hat 6.1 and I have an > old CTX monitor (cvp-5468). I too had the same prob when I installed Debian/GNU Linux and again with Corel Linux OS. It was that the version of XFree86 didn't like the graphics card I had (Rage128 chipset). The solution - downoaded the newer version of Corel Linux that had XFree86 3.3.6 (or something like that - a newer version anyhow). It solved it all and it works great. I suggest searching the web for Linux/<your-graphics-card>, or just upgrade to a newer version of RedHat or XFree86.
