Hi, I'm new to computing, I'm trying to install mandrake 7.0 , I'm asked to
create a root partition, what does it mean and how do I do it, I'm running
win.98se. I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Think of a partition as a sort of split of your hard drive into
smaller sections. For example, you have a 10GB Hard drive, and you
partition it as 1GB, 5GB, 4GB. So what it is telling you to do is to
create a root partition which i suggest to be a 1gb partition. I am
not sure if mandrake includes a means to do this. If it does not you
will have to end up doing it manually. Beaware that if partitioning
is not done correctly you face the issue that you may loose
everything.

you should already have more than one partition on your hard disk in which
you will install the Mandrake Linux. If you do so, then, at the installation
you have to edit the partitions (at the custom installation I think) and
select from the option fields "create root partition" (you will see an "/"
in the next field). You will select the partition you wish to install the
Linux first by clicking it with the mouse.
