bobcad has a free demo of thier cad/cam software located right on thier 
homepage,it can be downloaded and run on a windows pc and give your
students a good idea of cad/cam programing without spending a dime.

however to run the g code program created in windows environment on a
dos machine shouldnt be to hard to do. if you use notepad and save your
file as a .txt file you can open it with a dos editor.
