Mine is 981127, but I don't know if it's the latest.

I suppose so. Mine, produced 1997W31 (July/August),
bought in Austria, had it not enabled.

No idea about price, but I am quite happy with my 868.
Having used both the 688 and the 868 (and the 888), I 
just got a Siemens S25 and an Ericsson T10 (for free -
don't ask me how the networks manage to provide this 
in Austria, but we have the lowest phone prices 
[SIM-locked] _and_ the lowest airtime charges in 
Europe).

Comparing xx8 with these admittedly smaller phones,
I happily went back to the slightly oldfashioned
Ericssons: They offer a display I can read without 
glasses, something that never came to my mind before
looking at the Siemens (very low contrast color
display, smlal script) and the T10 (good contrast, 
but even smaller script). Second: I can push the 
keys with the fingertips, while I have to use 
fingernails on the smaller phones (especially on 
the Ericsson).

868 has an old 688 bug fixed: Ring volume change 
is right next to basic screen (as in 628 and 888),
not 8 strokes away. 

Besides, 868 is slightly thicker: The metal frame
is 8 mm wide compared to 6 mm at the 688.
