The latest software for GH688 is 981127.
However, in Singapore, I saw a set with the 990XXX version.
Can someone on this news group confirm this ????

Software Upgrades are for fine tuning the phone to reflect the changing
conditions in which the phone needs to be use in. New networks, found
software "bugs", improved menus............etc.

It depends on the set where it is manufactured and where it is shipped to in
the first instance.
In Singapore, we have the Sweden and Malaysia sets.
The Sweden set, by default is not EFR enabled.
The Malaysia set, by default is EFR enabled but if we need to use in
Malaysia or elsewhere
where the network does not support EFR, we need to turn it OFF before the
set can be used.
One of the ways to know is ask your nearest Ericsson Service Centre.
The other way is to "dump" your phone's EEPROM into a file and check the
info with the data sheet.

I think the S 868 is just a dual band version of the GH688.
If your network supports dual band & the price is cheap, go for it. 8-)
