I have a weird experience to report-please reply by private email if you
can shed any light on this one. I live in Rockland county NY and commute
via NY State Thruway. On Wed 2/14 there was a little snowstorm and I
called from my car to tell work I would be late. About 5 min later my
cell phone died. I would try to access and got a fast metallic busy when
I tried to activate my code etc. Could not get 611 or 911 either! Then
the radio died. All of a sudden there was just static. So I thought OK,
I'll listen to a tape. No luck. Tape went in and played static thru
speakers. This was very strange. So I got to work, went inside for a few
hours, came out to my car and my radio and phone were back. OK, so it was
a fluke. On my way home the phone did not work again, same problem. There
is a blasting zone on the thruway but they were not doing it as I drove
thru. SO the next day I called ATT Wireless and they told me someone had
cloned my phone so I needed a new PIN. I gave them a new PIN and still my
phone did not work this morning. I called them again and he told me to go
get my phone to test it--then it worked fine. Later on it didn't work
again. Then tonight my radio died again. I am thinking maybe there is
some kind of weird force field in my car. I don;t think there is anything
wrong with either the flipphone or the radio, but my phone worked great
till 2 days ago. It is not a dead spot on the thruway as it was dead for
10 miles or more-lasted till I got to work. Anyone have any ideas???
thanks--pls reply to susanste@cloud9.net

Hook a volt meter on the 12DC line to ground...
Looks like you are missing a frame ground at times or your
regulator went south....

It could be your car's troubleshooting computer is acting up, or
detecting a problem...
Mine detected a transmission problem, and it alarmed and interfered with
my radio reception. This cleared when I re-started the car, until the
next transmission error was detected.
I have a new car with the computer control and service alarms (Saturn).
Yours could be similar, if relatively new...

The prior post about voltage instability could be the problem as well...
bad volages can cause electronics to act wierd... better check the
grounds and radio shielding, too! The phone is car-mounted, right? If
its a portable hand-held, and battery-operated, the only interference
source is radio-frequency (back to the car computer), sunspots, or local
transmitter (not an issue if you had the problem in multiple locations.
