I wasn't side-stepping, you obviously didn't read what I posted. You
can get solid V.34 connections and still not get an x2, Flex, or V.90
connection. 56K technology is dependant on the fact that you only have
one analog-to-digital conversion between you and your ISP. V.34 isn't
impaired by the same things the 56k protocols.
Do you know someone who gets 56k connections from their home? Then I
suggest you take your PC to their house and see what you connect at
there. Did you ever consider that those modems are running older
firmware that's incompatible with your ISP's firmware, which in turn is
probably why your 56k modems are negotiating V.34 connections instead of
whichever 56k protocol they're running?
Again, before you go screaming at USR, there are too many other
considerations. I seriously doubt you have anything inherantly wrong
with your modems. And you also realize that changing conditions in your
phone line can cause your modem to retrain to lower speeds while you're
online?

Approach USR as a last resort.
