Has anyone found a modem and headset which work well together?

I just purchased a USR 56K Voice Faxmodem and a Labtec C-322 headset.

The headset works great for soundcard functions, but does not work
well with the telephony modem.

Price is not the problem... I need something that works.... I have
searched for days on the newsgroups and have not found one person who
seems to have been able to make these things work.  Is it all just
smoke and mirrors?
