A decent quality one will, but much will depend on what peripherals are
connected to it, and how stable a power supply it is capable of delivery
across all three rails, especially the frequently underpowered 12v rail.
Ideally you'll want 15A+ on the 12v line. Check the specs on the side of the
PSU.

Hmm, I think your a little confused here. All UK(I'm guessing you're UK,
sorry if you're not) power supplies run off 230-240 volts. The power output
is measured in Watts (W) and is what will determine how much load it can
handle. A 240*W* power supply would probably be able to handle a Duron, but
it's a little on the low side, depending on how many other devices (CD
drives etc) are connected to it.
Hope this helped,
Kevin

i presume you mean a 240 Watt psu. all depends on what you have connected to
it.
i myself have been using a 250 watt psu for over a year now with an athlon
xp2200+ clocked to 2400+ (2 gig) with 4 scsi hdd's, 1 ide hdd, 1 ide cdr, 1
scsi cdr and 1 scsi cdrw.
so if you have a good quality psu with a non excessive amount of drives you
'shouldnt' experience any problems

I once used a 240v supply to switch on a lightbulb.

240VAC or 240 Watt PWS? A 250 Watt should be fine (but AMD recommends
atleast a 300 Watt), as long as you don't load it down with a bunch of hard
drives/CD-ROMs/etc.

usually the heavier the better, i have a 100watt micro atx power supply
that is more reliable than a 250watt cheapy. that's with a celeron 1.7, HDD
cd-rw and 3 fans.

I used the same case and power supply unit (PSU) from my original P3-550
up to may latest AMD 1700+.
After in finally died I found out it was "only" a 250W model. I had at
one point been using it to run my AMD 1700+ with Volcano 7+ on an ASUS
A7V266-E, 2 case fans, GF3-Ti200, 2 HDD's, 1 CD-ROM, 1 CD-RW and a
DVD-ROM drive.
:-)
My bro-in-law said, before it died, that I should check it to make sure
it was a 300W. I didn't want to check because I just wanted to assume it
was figuring that as soon as I checked it, it would stop working. :-)
