Slowly working through the installation of this board..Geeezzzzzzz..what
hassels...But as I'm on it now..talking to ya...I'm getting there :O) Anyway
my question is this... Installed a second HD and set to slave on IDE 1. In
bios I set for autodetect... It's an Older Fat16 33 driven HD. Can't format
because it has data I need and can't remove..Any way Bios Sees it
"Everything right..Heads,Cyl,ect but as soon as I get to Windows front
screen at startup I get "BSOD...Blue Screen"
Disable the drive in Bios and it boots fine..Grrrrrrrrrrr Any input guys
on what causes this?? And how i can fix it? TIA Fellas :O)

Hi ED , On some of my systems it made no difference,on a couple they would
go stupid if both drives were bootable? it just sounded like something to
try before he puts a bullet through it : )

I get the feeling the HD has gone goofy. I had a drive, no problems at
all, but when I shared it with another drive on the same IDE port it
wouldn't act right, no matter if it was the Master or Slave, even tried
every jumper combination imaginable just in hopes it would work. In
windows I'd see 2 C: drives and 2 D: drives, and only the Master had the
Active Partition on it. The PC would get confused and report file not
found. You can rack your brains and loose hair over this stuff! <G>

Hi Spook, maybe a daft question - have you tried your problem drive as a
master on the second IDE channel - take out the CD for a mo.? I had a
similar problem with a WD 33 and IBM 66 - had to move to a separate IDE.

regards, Mike

It's a Maxtor problem. Maxtor's have a hard time being slaves. Put it on
the secondary IDE channel.

Hey ED , weclome to my club, I have an old wd 1.6 gig that does exactly what
you describe, if its on a cable with another drive it works perfect, if it's
by its self, bios won't see it (no matter what) even used wd utilities , the
wd utilities said my computer had a problem? That same computer works fine
with any other drive I put in it? Now I use the W.D. 1.6 to crack walnuts!

Maybe as time goes on my attitude about maxtor will change?
I now own several maxtor drives, I keep buying them cause they always work
great for me? Pri/sec,master/slave overclocked( but I don't overclock that
far)
So far the only gripe I have is maxblast, worthless utility with poor
instructions
I have seen a lot of posts recently regarding the new 40&60 gigs
Who Knows?

Do you have this drives partition set as active or bootable in f/disk?
I dont think it should be?

That shouldn't matter. I have done that on older Pentium systems, and
also installed the system files to the second drive and made the
partition active. If the C: drive failed to boot the PC, the customer
could boot up off the second (D:) drive. These were Win95/98 PC's if
that makes any difference?
