Hi, Company is using rh 7.2 running postfix and imap server any how I have about 6 users who access common accounts like sales, samples etc, the problem is they keep getting the following error message "Your IMAP Server has closed the connection. This may occur if you have left the connection idle for too long." I have read this is a bug in how Outlook handles imap, I'm wondering if there is a fix around this. tia Stan

I think you have to recompile uw-imapd with the following flag: MICROSOFT_BRAIN_DAMAGE. This disables the IDLE command of the server. Christian -- Bitte DONTSPAM aus der E-Mail Adresse entfernen.

Not knowing how to do that, where would I add this entry, also I gather this will affect other domains being hosted on the same server. The next question, is there a mailfile format that supports multiple connections. Excuse these basic questions as I'm more familiar with Domino and this has been a steep learning curve for me since I started on this in the last few days. tia Stan

The UW IMAP FAQ (http://www.washington.edu/imap/IMAP-FAQs) clearly states that "MICROSOFT_BRAIN_DAMAGE option is removed as of imap-2002, in favor of a better way to work around IDLE problems". The mbx format permits multiple simultaneous read/write sessions. For further enlightenment, you should start by reading the relevant documentation available at http://www.washington.edu/imap/documentation/. If you are already using Postfix, you could switch your mailbox format to Maildir. Maildir stores each message in a separate file. The courier-imap server (http://www.inter7.com/courierimap.html) can serve these maildirs. But I don't know if courier-imap plays nice with outlook.
