I've got a Geforce 2 MX200 and some games are just so dark while others are perfectly fine. For example, Quake 2 and 3 is dark and but Quake 3 TA is excellent. After installing Team Arena, Quake 3 is also fine. The list of dark games also include Pro Rally 2001, Sports Car GT, Carmageddon TDR, Alien Vs Predator 2, Quake 1, Quake 3 (under Linux this time), Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I had similar problems with a Voodoo 2 but not with a Diamond Monster Voodoo 1. It's like walking around with very dark sunglasses on. Games like Rally Championship Extreme, Master Rallye, Midtown Madness 2 and Tribes 2 look fantastic - they're nice and bright. My monitor is big and bright, so thats not the problem. Any suggestions? Is it because I bought a non-brand name card? I think I'll buy a brand-name Geforce 3 Ti500 card next time. Another question: how do I get past the very first level level in Return to Castle Wolfenstein? I've killed everyone and don't know where to go next. There is a door I cannot open. It's in the hall room where there are a few knight-in-armour statues. Thanks for your help.

I know the game is meant to be dark and atmospheric, but this goes a bit too far. Quake 1, Quake 3 (under Linux this time), Unreal, > Unreal Tournament, > and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Wolfie uses the Q3 engine, so transfer your q3 seta r_gamma " " seta r_intensity " " settings to it's autoexec.cfg or just increase them in the options ? > > I had similar problems with a Voodoo 2 but not with a Diamond Monster Voodoo > 1. > > It's like walking around with very dark sunglasses on. > > Games like Rally Championship Extreme, Master Rallye, Midtown Madness 2 and > Tribes 2 > look fantastic - they're nice and bright. This only works in single player though. -- "When you feel like life's gonna take a turn for the worse, press F6.." Steve Inglo No IM# available

I think I found it in the planetAvP forums. When I first tried it I thought perhaps I was being put on. But it does work. I used to have a friend who was a chef who got pissed off whenever he saw someone add salt to the food he had prepared, said he wished the restaurant wouldn't put salt on the tables. I told him he was a moron. I feel the same way about game designers and brightness controls. -- "When you feel like life's gonna take a turn for the worse, press F6.." If you don't have the latest Detonator drivers from NVidia.com, get them. The control panel will allow you to adjust your brightness, contrast, gamma, hue, etc. Then you can save different adjustments to files. These files can be brought up in the taskbar utility (also activated in the display settings control panel, somewhere). My settings are "General Goodness" (desktop), "Dark Games" (gamma cranked for older OpenGL games), "High Contrast" (too many games look washed out without it), and "RtCW" (I really wanted to tweak this game's awesome look). > There should just be a friggin slider somewhere though. > > -- its a sad day for 3D shooters, when being able to see is considered a cheat ! - hell even in the brighter scenes of AvP2, such as the first predator mission, you can tell the facial textures and other things are too dark and there's something wrong ! RTCW has its dark scenes too, such as the crypt section, and it works quite well and is acceptable like that - is brightness controls considered a cheat when playing wolfie online ? i don tink so !

Too bad those controls don't seem to affect most games... at least on my system. jmg "Cobra95" <kjsuarez@msn.com> wrote in message news:7fc75702.0112070640.37a53561@posting.google.com... > If you don't have the latest Detonator drivers from NVidia.com, get > them. I'm using 3Deep software that came with my MSI Geforce2 Pro... it seems to brighten all games I run along with Windows... I've tried fooling around with the color correction but it doesn't seem to brighten when I run games, only windows... give a try with 3Deep... not sure where to get it but I'm sure someone knows here...
