In the news article dated 24 Dec 1996, it was said by chris@abint.demon.co.uk (Chris Jones) that ... >> > >> You say you have upgraded "many" times but bugs rarely show up. If you wish to quote me, please do say accurately. what I said was As to upgrades, I have upgraded my version more times that I care to remember all ways smoothly and without trouble. This was in balance to remarks concerning the upgrades always giving problems. >> Why >> then did you upgrade at all? NetcGold (or is that NetcBRASS) has only >> recently came onto the market and there have been many upgrades (as >> you say) precisely because of the many bugs..... >> I guess when someone sucumbs to cheap sarcasm, it shows lack of facts to support knowledge. I bought copy no 323 of Agent, so guess I must have done so within in days of it going on sale. In fact I was using Netcetera some months before that, so as you can see it has been around for some time. In case you are wondering my son wanted to try Agent on his computer. Why does one upgrade, mainly to take advantage of the many inhancements that have taken place, it has come a long way since version 1.59 which I started with. I will no doubt see you take advantage of the future upgrades to Agent, so by you logic will that mean you consider Agent defective. >> > >> Really! NetcPlus is a Visual Basic program. There IS a speed >> difference. This point is self evident to any programmer (as I am), >> unless the people at NetcPlus have somehow got 110% performance out of >> this language. Fine so you are a programmer and can argue on theory, which I have little or no knowledge of prgramming so I can't. What I can say and did was that in practice I could detect no difference in speed on my system between the two. I consider myself an average user, using and average system and therefore commented on my observation using both products. Of course apart from the language Netcetera does downlaod in a different way to Agent, It doesn't get the headers than go back for the message body, and it does the threading offline after the messages have been collected, this may account for why *I* see no differenve in speed. After all I am only concerned about how long the program uses the phone line for. Many people will prefer one product or the other for different reasons. On the computer set up I have here Agent cannot do what NetcGold can, ie it cannot handle multiple accounts in one pass. I would not presume to tell people Agent was rubbish because I have found a better program for my needs. Both are excellent programs, I think Netcetera has more useful features which make it a more powerful program. -- best wishes Dave ----------------------------------------------------------------- using NETcetera Gold v2.70.01
