The raw data speeds across the world and down your phone line to your
computer and then hits your program.  This data has to be processed
into something you can read (like this message) and the speed of this
operation depends on the speed of your newsreader program.  If the
program is written in Basic (like NetcGold), it is much slower than
other programs written in faster languages that can process this data
faster.
