They weren't written because of added features etc (nobody's that quick!) but to fix bugs. Nobody brings out a "upgrade" every week. It was simply my effort to lighten the mood. I assure you it wasn't aimed at you but rather that the program itself. I still believe that those people at Netcetera should have named it "NetcBrass" rather than "NetcGold". You are not connected to Netcetera, are you? >I bought copy no 323 of Agent, so guess I must have >done so within in days of it going on sale. I left it then to go to FreeAgent and recently retried NetcGold (big mistake!). FreeAgent has been around since the year dot. >Why does one upgrade, mainly to take advantage of the many inhancements >that have taken place, it has come a long way since version 1.59 which I >started with. With NetcGold I have to wait several minutes for the articles to be threaded. My computer is down during that time . The articles in Agent are threaded so much faster. This is the difference when using a language like Basic. Also try the search facility and "find next unread article" when wading through thousands of articles. You may be only concerned at how long the program uses the phone but my time is valuable and cannot spare it waiting for a program such as NetcGold to do it's job. >Many people will prefer one product or the other for different reasons. Both are excellent programs, I think Netcetera has more useful >features which make it a more powerful program. > Agent can handle multiple accounts. NetcGold can only handle 5 whilst Agent can handle any number for free. NetcGold has clashed on my system yet again. Rubbish? I can only point out my own experiences. Over the years I have tried to help people new to the Internet and a decent newsreader is part of this. I have been on the Internet for a great many years (long before it was "cool") and have picked up a few facts during that time. When I find something seriously wrong with something, I shall warn people. ------------------------------ Regards Chris Jones chris@abint.demon.co.uk -----------------------------
