While its possible to have 3 dud drives in a row, its very unlikely unless the mob flogging them is being stupid about repeatedly flogging drives that are returned because they dont work. > The third might not have been as straightforward as it > appears, there's a possibility that it was not a new model. Guess it could be one hell of a shonky operation you were dealing with. > My question is, is it possible that my PC could be destroying CD writers? Its certainly theoretically possible, but very very unlikely. Easy enough to test that theory, get yet another burner, this time from someone else. Install it in a different PC and check its working. Install it in your PC and see it fail to work. Put it back in the first PC and see it not work anymore. > If so, Should it also be destroying CD ROM drives too? Not necessarily. Its much more likely that the operation you were dealing with is a packa shonks. Just get another drive from somewhere else. If it doesnt work either, there is very likely some basic problem with the PC but its unlikely to be actually killing the burners.
