second hard drive

I am trying to install a Seagate 6.5Gb drive as a second HD on my PC.
I am connecting it to the CD Drive data cable, as the the second connector
on my primary hard drive data cable will not reach it. I set the jumper to
primary on the HD and to slave on the CD Drive. The BIOS auto detects the
new drive correctly (6506MB) but when I use the Seagate Disk Manager it
tells me that the size of the HD is only 540(I think)MB. At this stage I
exit the setup process and reset the CMOS so only the primary drive is
present. When I reboot the PC however it does not boot to Windows until I
physically disconnect the new HD.

Please advise.

Why are you using the Seagate Disk Manager at all ?
That isnt a good idea unless you have no alternative.

The main situation you need it is where the motherboard
is rather elderly and doesnt have LBA support.

The first thing to get clear is whether you need disk manager at all.
