Let's remember that the people we are talking about torturing (or just making a little uncomfortable, depending on your point of view) are NOT CHARGED with ANY CRIME. They are simply being detained. Let's repeat that for effect: NO EVIDENCE. NO CHARGES. NO CRIME. JUST TORTURE. They are being held without charges and without representation. They are being held at secret locations around the globe. No evidence is required for their detention. They are held in Guantanamo Bay. They are held by the hundreds, if not the thousands. They are scooped up in sweeps or found cowering after battle. They might be hardened killers, determined to kill little Janie Smith sleeping in her bed on Main Street, USA. Or they might be taxi drivers. They might be housewives. Or children. We don't know, because the President, who wants to torture them, won't tell us. These are the people whom our President wants our authority to torture without fear of legal reprisal. Is there any sane person who thinks this is a good idea?
