Response. I have read your post and remain unrepentent. If you are a
nondegreed PE and you claim to be better trained than a 2.0 engineer are
you saying that no one should go to college to learn engineering, that you
are better off learning engineering on your own?

First: And I have worked with many non degreed PE's who scare me to death
because they lack fundamental training in physics, mathematics, strength of
materials, statistics, etc. that even a 2.0 new engineer has. Imho a 2.0
degree is better than no degree. Further although someone may pass the PE
without a degree I believe they are ignorant (simply because they lack the
prerequsite knowledge and scientific training) and are unqualified to be
called an engineer.

Second: I did not say that I would rather depend on a new 2.0 grad than a
nondegreed PE. Imho neither are qualified. However the 2.0 grad can be
taught to be a responsible engineer since he has at lease learned the
fundamentals, the non-degreed PE can not be taught (without sending him
back to college to get a degree) since he does not have the basic skills.
To draw an analogy; one cannot read until one knows the alphabet, just as
one can not be an engineer until one knows mathematics/physics.
