I'm sorry, I really don't understand this reference. Under what code would you be punished if you called yourself an engineer without the PE license? I know I can call myself a "doctor", without a PhD or MD or DDS, or any other doctorate degree. Legally. I just can't represent myself in business as an MD, or PhD, or JD unless I have that degree. I can represent myself as a "spin-doctor", or "LAN-doctor", or just plain "doctor", in business, as long as I don't claim credentials I don't have. How else does the "rug-doctor" steam cleaner system stay in business? I think that what you are referring to is the fact that Illinois law can prosecute for fraud if somebody claims credentials as a Professional Engineer without the license. Otherwise, there are a lot of firms out there in Illinois who are hiring criminals, who answer ads for all sorts of "engineers", but who don't have the PE license. I'm sorry, but I think this whole discussion is silly. Anybody who feels demeaned because trash haulers are called sanitation engineers is putting more faith in their title than in their ability to do the job. That's not an engineer in my book, while they trash hauler who gets the job done, is. Greg Shetler
