>>Another question. How much waste is there to store at the moment? I see >>quotes in the form of '000s tons but can't visualize this. Assuming average >>density of 1000kg/m^3 (ie water) then 1000 tonne of waste is about 10m^3. >>So, how big is the hole in the Yucca mountains? > > >The US already has more than 4 times the amount of waste that Yucca >Mountain can store due to thermal limits. > Not to neglect the rest of your questions, the issue is why are we contemplating making more when we haven't answered these questions. Can we seriously consider increasing nuke power by 50 or 100 fold when we can't deal with this smaller fraction? We are not talking about one shot, but a way of life forever!! This ball and chain we are forging for our descendants will only get larger and larger. And we are supposed to believe that nukes will use _LESS_ land?? Ridiculous. Four Yucca Mountains in 40 years. Now multiply that by 50 to account for a major nuke expansions and multiply by the time we expect to keep using nukes. It's no wonder they want to bury it and forget it. Regards, Tim O'Flaherty
