What I can think of is that you boot from install CD1 in rescue mode, then 
copy the glibc libraries from the CD to your system, reboot and then install 
the glibc RPMs (rpm -Uvh --force glibc*.i386.rpm).


When I did run RH7.3 I did use the Redhat9 glibc (rebuild the sourceRPM), this 
lessens the risk for problems, but todays glibc uses nptl, which can cause 
other slight problems, but you can modify the glibc.spec a little bit so it 
don't compile the nptl and don't try to create the RPMs.
