Tom..
In order to view non-Linux floppies, bypass the /etc/fstab file. You
must change the settings in the '/etc/fstab' file
Change the third column to 'msdos' instead of 'ext 2' using 'vi
/etc/fstab'
(walk to the line with your arrow key, put the cursor on E, press r
key... type:
'msdos' to change it. Press 'esc' key and then type ':wq" to save it.
then when you have a Windows floppy in your drive.. mount it 'mount
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy'
that should do it! to unmount all you have to do is type 'umount
/dev/fd0'
