Hello, Originally i had one hard disk: a scsi disk. I installed red hat linux 6.1 on it with lilo in the MBR. The /boot and / partition are formatted in ext2. Later on a second hard disk was added: an IDE disk as pimary master disk. I switched the boot order in the bios from scsi to IDE so that the ide disk would boot first to prevent windows overwriting my MBR on the scsi disk and installed windows 2000 on an NTFS5 partition on the IDE disk. Now i can boot both OSs by switching the boot order in the bios. Now i tried to reconfigure both boot managers to boot the other OS. first i booted linux and adjusted /etc/lilo.conf to install lilo in the boot partition of Linux instead of the MBR (of the scsi disk) and added some lines to let lilo deal with the fact that the scsi disk is booted before the ide (this worked fine) and an entry for the windows 2000 partition (on /dev/hda1). I typed lilo at the prompt to update lilo and rebooted. I could still boot linux fine but when i tried to boot windows 2000 i get a lot of '1' & '0' on the screen. I think the reason this doesn't work is that lilo can't deal with the NTFS partition. anybody disagrees on this? second strategy: i made a copy of the linux boot sector with dd onto a FAT floppy, switched the booting order in the bios, booted windows 2000, copied the boot sector to f:\linuxbootsector (during setup windows 2000 took c:\ to correspond to my linux boot partition, but i unmounted this later on), and then added f:\linuxbootsector="linux" to boot.ini. This doesn't work: windows 2000 complains that the bootsector is invalid. I also tried an ARC path (multi(0).....) pointing to the linux boot partition directly. This doesn't work either. I also tried with another ARC path: scsi(2)disk(6)rdisk(0)partition(1)\ because my scsi disk is on controller 2 (according to the windows registry) and on id 6. This causes my machine to reboot when i select this option (so i reboot in the boot). Anybody got an idea how i can get my system to multiboot with a boot manager?
