Is there anywhere where I can download Open Linux 2.3 to burn on CD, or is this asking too much? I have 2.2, but it does not want to install with my SiS 6326 AGP video card (it hangs with a grey screen at the start of the LIZARD) I'm only a newbie and believe this will be much easier than downloading and installing patches etc. (already tried to install Xfree86 3.3.5 with no success!). I would fork out the bucks for it, but here in Brisbane, Australia I can't find it anywhere (anyone know who stocks it - plenty have 2.2 :( ). Regards, Ranga

Check out http://www.lsl.com.au in Melbourne. They have 2.3 available. I also had a card like yours. I took my machine back to the suppliers and changed it for a Matrox Productiva G100. It works beautifully with RH6.0.

My bitter feeling about all of this is it is unfair. almost all of the components there are under GPL, ie free, and just because of 4 of their components people cannot share the whole thing. I guess, I would not care a bit if they developed the whole lot, but knowing 98% of the stuffs are GPL I felt this is unfair. Glenn

Hi You don't need 2.3 to get your videocard working. Just download and install either the latest version of Xfree86 or the SuSE SiS X server from the SuSE website. -L Ranga wrote: > > Is there anywhere where I can download Open Linux 2.3 to burn on CD, or is > this asking too much? Really out of the big boys only redhat and debian(and clones of those there of) are GNU distributable. All the tools these two release are GNU. Apparently mandrake is following in the footsteps of its predessor. Joe

LISA. 100% freely distributable and comes as part of COL. I recomend you try the MANDRAKE 6.0 distrobution. I have the same sis6326 card and it worked perfectly first time with this version. There is a very easy solution to this. Run Debian. You can't really blame Caldera, they are trying to make money and stay in business. I would rather give my money to Caldera than Microsoft. I find all this bickering about prices really silly because everybody can run Debian (or RedHat) for virtually free (the price of cutting a CD). I think people that pay money in the store for Linux distributions are naive; the support the companies claim to give is virtually non-existent and better manuals can be had at the bookstore. Why bother?

Is there a way to download Linux and install it off of floppy disks, if you have a fast Internet connection but no capability for burning a CD? I dont know if they have done the same thing with their YaST or not but they have copyrighted the word SuSE and the chameleon picture. I do believe you can install it a number of systems if you like. But you cannot sell their GPL product and name it something like SuSE GPL. Cannot use the word "SuSE" unless you have a written permission from them Glenn

No this is not true, the other commercial packages, were not get included in their "public" version, ie. the version they put on the FTP site. Furthermore, the license we are talking about is the 4 components of theirs. In the license it says, the "third party software", ie the other commercial packages, has their own license, we have to read the license that is available on the CD. Glenn
