I want to install Linux on my win95/DOS computer; There are many files on the FTP's of redhat etc. But which file(s) do I need? Same question for X-Windows. (No source code, but compiled programmes!!) RemcoX <rwulms*spam-protection*@dds.nl> [Remove *spam-protection* for remailing]

(No source code, but compiled programmes!!) Buy it! It's only a few bucks and you get several CD-ROM's and a handbook. There's also a setup routine included on the CD, which makes live easier... regards, mike

Unless you have a very fast connection you could spend a day or 2 of none
stop downloading. Instead I suggest that you go to:
http://www.cheapbytes.com
and order the linux distribution of your choice for $1.99 + shipping on
CD. It only took 3 days for me to recieve my order to Canada and have
heard of many other good experiences when dealing with cheapbytes. They
also offer book/CD combinations that will help you get started if you are
not familiar with Linux.

Same question : for X-Windows. (No source code, but compiled programmes!!) Just download the startup disk files (to a disk :-)) and begin installation. When asked for the type of installation, choose FTP. The installation program will give you a few options, e.g. 'C development' (or something), and automaticly installs all the necessary packages. I bought SuSE Linux 5.2 and it is very good, and a good handbook is included. That's really worth the few bucks. ( http://www.suse.com ) regards, mike

The RH I got is full of bad scripts that I couldn't much of anything beyond the command prompt. Solicitations unwelcomed and will not be answered.
