At least you have an entire year before the new millenium starts (1/1/2001)... 2000 is the last year of the 20th century (and the 2nd millenium) - there was no year 0 åNdRew yEonG® wrote: > > Hello... i have a prob with my X. > Everytime i start X , the screen will blink ( in attempting to start X) > for bout 10 times... then disabled for 5 minutes. > A message prints " According to /var/run/gdm.pid was already running > (5xx) but seem to have murdered mysteriously." > > I'm running RH6. Please help ... I wanted to celebrate the New > Millennium with Linux. Thanks. I got this error a couple times myself. What had happened was, I'd screwed up on my LILO configuration in /etc/lilo.conf. My RedHat configuration is on my 2nd HD (/dev/hdc) and my SuSE is on /dev/hda. I ran LILO from SuSE after reinstalling it. Check your /etc/lilo.conf and make sure it points at the proper vmlinuz. Keven

Don't think it's a prob with LILO, screen wouldn't blink or sth, system would say "no OS" or something. It seems like you have 2 probs: either wrong vertSync-Frequenci, this causes the Screen to turn of for protection (too high frequency, watch the manual) and some mysterious problem with the X-Server. try using a standard CRT in your XF86Config, maybe you will be able to see the other prob. dd Am Fre, 07 Jan 2000 hat Keven R.
