Hi, A few weeks ago I was given an injection of Haldol, and my Paxil was increased to 60mg a day, from 30, to help with severe anxiety from OCD and Asperger's Syndrome. Since then, I have gained ten pounds and I no longer seem to get full, which is annoying because I just lost a lot of weight (but not enough yet), and I dislike thinking about food all the time. I have refrained from eating more though. Could this inability to get full be from the Paxil, Haldol, or the combination?

I have no experience with Haldol, however I was on Paxil for almost 2 years and did have an increase of appetite. All my life I've been either thin or skinny, and when I was on Paxil I gained 20 pounds in those 2 years and this was even with regular excercise. That is my experience with Paxil anyway. However the drug did help mentally. Sounds like the Haldol to me... seems like most (not quite all)
antipsychotics have a tendency to do that... it wears off after awhile I
think, as long as they don't give you more of it... Haldol and Prolixin
both come in long-acting injection but I can't remember how long they
last -- they had to give me Cogentin (an antidote of sorts) for awhile to
get rid of the effects of those two (which are, to me, poison)

Hi, I just take Paxil and I have actually noticed a decrease in my appettite. I don't feel hungery when I know I should ... Before I started Paxil I used to be hungery normally ie, at lunch and close to dinner time. Now I have to make sure I remember to eat or I start getting bitchy or light headed (low blood sugar). I've lost some weight (5-10 lbs? - I don't have a scale) but I also quit drinking too and I think the weight loss is more from that because I still eat the same I just have to make more of a conscious effort to. That's my experience with Paxil - I know it doesn't give you much insight into your question but I know quite a few people report weight gain on SSRI's - they say that they crave carbohydrates; bread, potatoes, pasta etc ... I don't know if that true but I've seen people discuss it on the OCD-L. I don't know anything about Haldol. Don't know about cause of the hunger problem in relation to medication. But I do know that, for some, Haldol has been a God send. Have a friend who's mother lived in constant terror and frustration until the doctor gave her Haldol. For the first time, in a long time, she was able to enjoy spending time with her family. But I am sure that every one reacts differently. Hi back - Andrew is not on the two drugs you mention, which are antipsychotic ones, but he is on one of the latest ones called Risperdal (Risperidone) (used primarily to treat schitzophrenia). One of the listed side effects is weight gain and Andrew has gained about 7 kg since being on it. Perhaps this is common to aps drugs as I have two very good friends with schitzophrenia and know several other people who have it. All of them are large people. Just a thought Christine microgalaxy@geocities.com wrote in message <364CE887.4DB4@geocities.com>... >Hi, >A few weeks ago I was given an injection of Haldol, and my Paxil was >increased to 60mg a day, from 30, to help with severe anxiety from OCD >and Asperger's Syndrome.
