PointCast isn't a bandwidth sucker for the internet as a whole. Unlike spam, it takes paths designed for high bandwidth. The data is compressed and the amount bandwidth used for PointCast ads is far lower than the bandwidth used for banner ads on web pages. PointCast is a company that has internet advertising right. The ads give you free access to pay news services. You can also turn off PointCast if you don't like it. Spam keeps comming. Usenet spam may kill off some great newsgroups but isn't a bandwidth problem either. Ask a sysop how many GB/day come in for alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.*
