It would be worth knowing what version browsers are currently being
used. IE for Mac has not been updated for quite a while and Microsoft
have said that they have now stopped its development, even for the new
Mac OS X. It remains at version 5.1.7. Personally, I found it to be an
OK browser on Mac OS8.6.

Go to:
http://www.versiontracker.com/macos/
type *web browser* in the search box and you will get a list of suitable
software.

Installing and uninstalling is one area where there are generally fewer
problems than on the systems you are familiar with. Basically you can
just drag stuff to the trash without doing any harm. There may be some
value in doing this after downloading the new software if you want to
transfer bookmarks and suchlike.
