HELP: CPU upgrade of Compaq 2262

Hi,

I am trying to find out some information on my Compaq 2262 desktop so that I
can work out how to upgrade the CPU. As yet I have not found any
information on the motherboard.

Current config:
    Cyrix 6x86 @ 233MHz
I think this runs at a core voltage of 2.8v

Proposed config
    AMD K6-2 @ 500MHz
I think this needs between 2.2 and 2.4 core voltage

The motherboard has no information printed on it, but it does have 2 sets of
3 jumpers. The first are labelled FRE00, FRE01, FRE02. The second are
labelled CLK0, CLK1, CLK2. I am hoping that the FRExx jumpers set the core
voltage and the CLKx jumpers set the CPU speed multiplier.

Does anyone know anything about this motherboard or know where I can find
some detailed technical information? The Compaq web site does not have any
info. and the service center people couldn't help me!

PS: please reply with e-mail (and to the newsgroup if you want to).

Thanks
Ty Newton

I don't think it will work!
to be able to run amd k6-2 500, you will need M/B supporting system bus
speed of 100mhz.
Yours only do up to 66mhz. You won't be able to set the jumper at 5x100.

Hi the data to help you is at:
1.
http://vcmprocr.compaq.com/pdf/us_con_pdf/tech/tech/index.html
2.
http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/msgs/2200/models1.html
From 2 it would seem that 2260, 62, 64 and 66 have the same board.
Site 1, has system board jumper settings for AMD and MX chips.

These sites in particular 1, are US modle based, but from Site 2 one
can find a comparable model in this case 2264.

...
There is high probability that one set of jumpers lets you pick a main clock
frequency (50, 60, 66 MHz) and one set of jumpers lets you pick a multiplier
(1.5, 2, 2.5, 3). There should be a third set of jumpers for the CPU core
voltage.
