We've got 5 Gateway Colorbooks and 2 Dell Latitude XPs, all with 14.4 units, as well as 2 Twinheads Slimnotes with 28.8 units. All have performed and continue to perform quite well. I did have to replace a 14.4 from a Gateway, after someone plugged it into a digital phone like (I think). I also "flash updated" the BIOS in the 28.8 units after a minor connectivity problem (the "flash" BIOS is one of the really neat features of the Megahertz 28.2 modems). By the way, are you positive that someone is not trying to hook up your PC to a digital PBX line? There are line testers available (we have some made by IBM) that check voltage/current on a line to make sure it won't fry a modem. You might consider looking into one of these.
