My experience is 100% opposite. I had 3 years old Gateway 2000 486/33
(gave it to my daughter) and just receintly bought Dell XPS 133.
Several times I called Dell and the maximum waiting time was never
longer than 15 minutes and on several occasions it was 0.
Tech support and customer support representative are allways helpful
and friendly. Guess why I bought Dell? Because I had very different
experience with Gateway. Waitng time was allways more the 30 minutes
in some cases more than 60 minutes. Tech support is (was) not friendly
and in some cases not knowlegable or/and rude. I had a feeling that
they want to get rid of me asap and I am disturbing them.

: Get A Gateway. They give their customers a free 3 year, 24 hour, 7 day a
: week, onsite reapir service contract wihe thier higher end machines (P133 and
: P166). 2 friends of mine just took delivery of 133s and 166s and I have had a
: liitle bit of experience lately with Gateway's tech service. Out of 5 times
: called to ask stupid questions mainly regardin Win95, there was never a busy

:
: I am completely envious. I've been trying to reach a human at Dell for weeks
: without success. If anybody really there any more?
:
: Wish I'd bought a Gateway, dammit.

Get a Gateway! I know that tech. support is 'difficult'. But, I bought my
Gateway 2 years ago and I have never had to call to tech support. Even now,
after installation of Win95 everything worked and works perfectly. Remember
that happy people simple don't post anything in Newsgroups, they don't have a
time, they simply use their good system.

Yup! If you get a Gateway, too, you will NEVER ever need to call tech
support JUST BECAUSE this guy never had to call them.

And I'm sorry to hear you're unhappy.

Meaningless posts that take one specific case (which is not even
significant) and try to apply it to everything; sigh.

I would actually suggest people >NOT< get a Gateway, here are a few
reasons:

Bought a Pentium 60, 66, and 90. The CD-Rom that was included with it
ONLY works on DOS systems, and Gateway absolutely refused to provide a
WindowsNT or OS/2 driver.

With the Pentium 60, the floppy and hard drive basically rest on the
RAM chips. In a couple 486 Gateways, chips actually fell off the RAM
chip because the drive was resting on the SIMMs.

The Gateway Pentium 60 has numerous compatibility problems with
WindowsNT 3.51.

Etc, etc, etc...
