Kevin, (or anyone who knows for that matter) I've recently started to experience problems upon booting up my approximately 3 yr. old Zeos 486-100 w/Martin motherboard. To make a long story short, the cause is that the info in CMOS is getting reset to default settings, rather than what I need them to be setup with, so I have had to go into setup and reset them to get the system to boot properly. Apparently, the system battery is going and the info is getting lost (correct?). If this is the cause, could you tell me what battery I need to get to replace the one on my system -- size/type, etc. as I'd like to go out and get it beforehand and not have to tear it apart and go into the case more than once. Anything else I should know regarding this little operation?? Thanks.... ---------------------------------- tjmiles@netcom.com ----------------------------------

A wonderful feat of engineering genius. It certainly sounds like your problem is battery. Depending on how well you can see/get to parts on your board, it should not be a difficult task. Look for the battery itself, or look for a jumper on the board marked battery, and follow the wires back if there are any. Most of the more recent boards (the last few years) use some form of a watch-style battery. (My 1990-era 386 actually has a battery pack of 4 AA's). Once you get it out, the mfr & model should be stamped on it. You can probably get a replacement at Radio Shack. Good luck.

However, this has been spot-welded into place. But behind the battery there is a four pin connector labeled BATT for connection of an external battery. You can connect a battery pack here. You can get these packs at most any computer oriented store. The Coral board cannot operate above the 60 Mhz bus speed, except the last rev, which an operate at 66 Mhz on the PCI bus. It was designed around the P90. So in theory, the new Overdrive processors should work. This is something we have not tested at this time. I know that this board is not an EDO memory board BUT can I use EDO in it. I know it will not help as using 60ns when I have 70ns in there but will it work as normal memory. Why would I want to--- cause I can use the memory on a later upgrade and the price is not too different now.
