Escaping the notifier in Sunview

I don't know if I have sent this to the right news group - apologies
in advance if I haven't.

My problem is as follows. I want to write a small windowing package
(very basic!!) having the following flavour

	w = window_create( some attributes);
	window_printf( w, format, args, etc )

	s = window_gets( ... )

ie: I want to replace all the standard IO calls with window_<call>
equivalents that do the same thing but in a specific window.

I know the current vogue in User Interfaces is to seperate the
interface from the program (eg: using the Notifier in Sunview),
but I don't want to do this as I want control in my program and
not in the Notfifier. I want to be able to write code like,

	forever
		read a command
		if user has typed in "XXXX"
			open window A
			print into window A some message
		else if user typed in "...."
			open window B
			print into window B some message
	end forever

I want the control in my program and not in the Notfifier.

Hence I want to write a windowing package explicilty driven by the
program but still running under Sunview. To do this I need to
know how to

1. turn of the Notifier - I have figured this one out using
   notify_dispatch() instead of window_main_loop(window).

2. be able to explicilty hide and show a given window.

3. be able to do IO in an explicit window.

I stress again that I cannot use the notifier as I cannot assume that
the user has a mouse, or even a tty which supports windowing.

This seems to be impossible under Sunview.
Any tips or source would be most appreciated.
