Thanks for the replies.  Unfortunately what I didn't say is that I
don't use user-ids and passwords on this machine (I have no need) ...
so windows won't save a user-id and password for the internet
connection.  (And just because you've got a script doesn't stop
windows putting up a message box requesting a user-id and password).
I don't use IE5, I prefer Netscape Navigator 4.6.

I've seen the connect box several times and the "connect
automatically" check box is greyed out if you've not got a user-id and
password saved ....
