just unpacking it to primary active partition, starting himem and ifshlp.sys and typing win.com does not work so how can one make a bootable cd/usbflash with this mini98(make/use win98 bootsector instead of loading it to ramdisk as hirens does)?

What message do you get? do you get a dos prompt? what are the attributes of msdos.sys, and io.sys? -- (setq (chuck nil) car(chuck) )

I don't know about the mini Hirens, but I use the Hiren's CD boot disk. To find the program your looking for, you can CD to the ram disk and copy the program to the ram drive, or open each .Cab file, the .Cab name is a hint as to the program. To make a bootable Win98 bootdisk on a USB pen drive, this is how I do it. Download this HP utility, it will make the memory stick bootable. This link changes all the time I found it here: http://files.filefront.com/SP27213exe/;5953912;/fileinfo.html Don't trust that, google: SP27213.exe -works on all types of Pen Drives not just HP. Download Win98SE bootdisk (gives CD support) http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Use Winimage to extract the Win98 boot disk file (.exe) to a directory. http://tinyurl.com/s4h Run the HP utility and format the USB device, for a boot system point it to the extracted Win98 Directory. Copy the boot disk directory files to the Memory stick - skip the ones already copied. Boot up with the memory stick (bios setting) enable CD support. When your Pen Drive boots it will start complaining about something hit Control+C to stop it from loading anymore - your in. CTL+C cause it's just easier than explaining how to edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys files. -- Proper Way To Take a Photograph http://thehomebased.com/?p=153
