Agreed. : postings like this resulted in many newsnews closures in Canada. : the fact that the ban does not effect you where you are sitting, doesn't mean : that your keystrikes won't cause grief for people in Canada. : the breaking of the holmonka ban has resulted in the closure of many : non-holmonka related groups. : sure, you are free to say what you want. but along with that freedom is : a certain amount of responsibility to use that freedom with respect towards : others. (similar to screaming "FIRE" in a crowded bar). The phrase is "movie-house" which indicates the age, timelessness and wisdom of the saying. As much as I think the original poster is a TWIT, I dont agree with you by a mile. Makes me think that you are one of those 'administrators' or 'management' types. You're missing something. If some twit from the southern US decides to start spewing some racist garbage in the name of white power or something, therefore we should shut down our systems/net just cause hate literature is banned in canada? Wrong. I say LET HIM WRITE IT, so I can find out MORE about their position on the issue and how they think, and so I can better fight back at them. (This reminds me of someone who was invited to speak at CIUT radio on a talk show and how anti-Nazi activists wouldnt let him into the building at all. Thats just as small minded.) If someone wants to tell everyone how to make a saturday night special and post it all over the net, let them. In fact, tho I am pretty sure that having one here in Canada is pretty illegal, I dont know if telling people how to make one is. And I also dont know if posting on the usenet regarding the information at the Homolka trial is illegal either. Seems to be in about the same position as the gun argument above. Let them post it. If you feel you should shut down your system, then go ahead, I say, and fuck over your users and cower over what you think is the govt's wish to stop free speech. Actually, one thing I havent said at all before is: Has ANYONE acutally heard an OFFICIAL pronouncement by the authorities regarding the usenet posts at all? Or have all the admins and management been acting out of FEAR (and in the name of "prudence" I spose)? I've heard nothing personally, but I'm an admin of a tiny site. /kc -- Ken P.
