Why would they even > consider filtering when usenet is supposed to be an open forum? > I know. I've been harping on this theme for quite some time now. These amateur free newsservers being used as experiments to test out some lame, amateur admin's even more lame conceptions about how Usenet should work are messing the whole thing up for everybody. They've now got to the point where they are an obvious drag upon professional, well-run pay NSPs. The pros haven't helped their own cause either by their well-meaning support for freebies that continue to screw up the works. For this I entirely blame the putzes at NANA and NANU who have their collective heads up their asses and seem to be ineffective because they refuse to take action to save the network from real network abuse at the hands of lamer amateur admins who think they can operate with impunity with so many filters and petty rules and regulations that they have become like a virus infecting the network from the bottom and permeating all the way to the top echelons with their rot and corruption. Instead, the efforts are still aimed at individual network users who want to post uncensored messages that do no harm whatsoever. Until and unless those who have some real power over the network realize they are on the wrong track entirely and establish some modern standards that actually work and that require free news servers to adhere to these standards, the situation will become more and more dire. What we have been experiencing during the last couple years is only the tip of the iceberg. -- Gregory Hall
