+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Replying to this post could get you UDP-ed (UseNet Death Penalty). There is a censor in the austin.internet newsgroup who issued a UDP, based upon content which consisted of discussing, showing and arguing persuasively that an ISP, *Texas.Net*, is scamming their customers and booting people off their system if the people complain. If you support free speech and "consumerism" to warn others about fraudulent practices, file your protest with austin.internet newsgroup and support the local users. It's your free speech that is at risk. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In article <35630008.74497073@207.14.113.10>, altnet.general wrote: > > On Wed, 20 May 1998 15:06:12 GMT, metro@alt.anonymous.messages (Metro) > wrote: > > > >Please don't start your whining, egocentric, repetative bullshit here. > >You and your cronies have already ruined a couple of newsgroups > >I used to follow. It becomes obvious very quickly that your only goals > >are to incite people and glorify your enormous ego. > > I don't *know* what their motives are but they have uncovered someone > who not only has appointed himself as the judge of what may be posted > to *his* groups (based on content) but is issuing cancels against ALL > posts (including yours) from Altopia to *his* groups. Of course, so that no one mistakes it -- I'm not proposing that Altopia's policies change -- but I am proposing that people protest to the "austin.internet" and "austin.general" newsgroup about this kind of censorship and motivate others to do so, too -- because it affects all people (at one time or another, when someone just doesn't like the content of your speech). > > ---------------- > > From http://www.unicom.com/net-abuse/udp-report.cgi > > Incident Class "udp-hindman" (type=charter) > Target: austin.* postings by David Hindman aka Star Traveller > Reason: charter violations > Initiated: Sun May 17 20:05:57 CDT 1998 > Complain-To: aldeberan@alt.net, abuse@alt.net > Comments: this UDP targets all postings from Altopia, see > http://www.altopia.com/polfaq.htm > > ---------------- > > I realize that the goal of a couple of Altopia users (assuming they're > not the same person) is to find usenet censors and stir up shit by > exposing them. Some Altopia users don't seem to realize that there is > a price to be paid for the freedom Altopia affords us. Do you have any > idea of the time CC puts into defending Altopia's policies in > n.a.n.a.? Well, two things here. First of all, I think Altopia users should be active in supporting CC's policies and help him in defending Altopia in whatever forum that he's in. So, people get out there and do so. Then secondly, I don't know what two users you are referring to -- but I'm only one user (for one point, not two aliases) and I certainly wasn't looking for a censor when I got into a "consumer advocacy" position in the Texas newsgroups -- but I saw a crooked ISP really slamming a customer hard, and it was bad for all consumers. That's the least I could have done -- which was to support truth in advertising and honest businesses in the ISP business. And that was it -- for my big crimes for the UDP. I'll tell you -- they don't seem to care if there are dishonest ISPs down there, if all you get for criticizing dishonest and crooked practices is a UDP. That's my gripe. It's a fairly simple gripe -- but it has free speech ramifications for all posters. So, I think all should be aware of it. If this kind of thing is allowed (a simple ISP complaint/a consumer advocacy position) then I'm sure all sorts of other things are being censored, too. ____________________________________________________________________ xxx xxx xxx A message xxx xxx from the original, one & only xxx xxx --> Star Traveler <-- xxx xxx aldeberan@alt.net xxx xxx UDP-ed for warning about scam at Texas.Net ISP xxx xxx Protest FOR free speech at austin.internet xxx xxx xxx Does your news server allow forged cancels? That promotes censorship on content. A UseNet Death Penalty was issued because of my warning about a crooked ISP -- ** Texas.Net ** -- cheating the customers. Complain in a post to austin.internet about the UDP and censorship!! ____________________________________________________________________ -- If your name is below -- you are either an idiot, liar, useless, troublemaker or deserve no response -- and as such will get no further response -- preventing the "flooding" of the newsgroups.
