Mmmm. If you don't want it to automatically mount a cd when you start up, add "noauto" to the list of options, like this: /dev/hdc /cdrom iso9660 ro,user, noauto 0 0 Or: /dev/hdc /cdrom iso9660 ro,nosuid, nodev, noauto 0 0 >>Any ideas are much appreciated. >Now, as to why it is so slow, I dunno... Mounting a cd always requires >use of mount/umount, but it shouldn't take an entire minute. If you've got a CD drive that uses the "SBPCD" driver (ie a Panasonic or SoundBlaster CD) compiled in as a module and you haven't set the type up properly, it'll take several minutes searching for the drive type when you try to mount the drive. Shouldn't slow down accesses though... (If anybody has figured out how to pass parameters to a module to stop this happening, I'd love to know about it!) gossamer -- : /~/\ <-blue Bek Oberin - gossamer@glasswings.com.au : /_/\_\ http://glasswings.com.au/gossamer/ : Nature and nature's laws lay hid in night, God said, 'Let Newton be,' : and all was light.
