I had a very similar problem with a mitsumi cd. After quite a lot of help
from both the cd manufacturer and the sound card vendor (rie, btw) I
discovered that the PnP card defaulted to having its IDE controller
disbled when first powered on. The driver for the SOUND part of the
card, though, re-enabled the IDE CD controller. Thus Win95 and DOS on my
machine work properly, but Linux and the various versions on NT will
only access the CD if Win95 (or DOS) have been run first! (That is, the
NT and Linux drivers don't know to re-enable the IDE controller). One fix
would be to buy a new secondary IDE controller, I guess......
Hope this helps
Steve
