Does anyone know of a way in which line noise (from dialin modems) at the login: prompt could cause a (fairly old revision) Linux box to crash? Every now and then, the system goes down, and the syslog shows failed logins by line-noise-looking login names. Could this be another example of gets() in login, or some similar buffer overflow? This has happened 4 times in the last 7 days. Any help would be most, um, helpful :-) (PS: Does anyone know where I can find the source for the login program? I've looked through the CD distribution which has the source to everything else, and tried on the Web, but I've presumably just missed it. I know its less glamorous even than binutils, but I would really like to check this bug out myself......) Thanks (hopefully) -----Nick "Sharkey" Moore
