Mount the syquest drive on /mnt (or similar mountpoint).
Edit /mnt/etc/lilo.conf as if you're setting it up as the root filesystem.
set the environment variable "ROOT" to /mnt
   Under sh, bash, etc: ROOT=/mnt
csh, tcsh, etc: setenv ROOT /mnt
Run /mnt/sbin/lilo

Voila, done. Basically, lilo has the ability to "chroot" itself
before doing anything else, which it does if you have the environment
variable "ROOT" set, or you use the -r flag.

Umm... However, I'm not sure if this is what you want to do.
The above stuff lets you set up a disk that you've got mounted
temporarily as some other device, so that you can boot off it
after you've changed it back to the root device.

Want to post a clearer description of exactly what you want to
achieve?

You want to be able to boot off the syquest, without removing anything
else from the machine? Why don't you set up the lilo.conf on the hard
disk (/dev/hda) to give you an option to boot off the syquest
(ie to boot off /dev/hdb from the lilo on /dev/hda)?
