Help - Linux won't recompile!

I have recently tried to recompile Linux to a newer version but it won't
work! Everything goes alright up to the time that it tries to compile
consolemap.c when it goes completely wrong coming up with lots of errors
about things not being defined.

I have compiled the kernel before and it has worked and I've also tried
removing all the source files and putting them back but that doesn't work
either.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers.
