Just my humble opinion but:
Vacation stinks!
On several email discussion lists I have been on, I have often seen someone
rely on vacation to manage their email while away, but not unsubscribing
from the discussion lists.
The end result:
You receive a message from a discussion list.
Vacation happily replies to it ( via the list).
You receive your "vacation notice" - posted by your vacation program,
(via the list)
Vacation responds to the posting it posted and the list fills up
and gets bigger and bigger with every message it sends back to the list,
replying to its own message everytime it receives one.
People start flaming, and the vacation program replies to the flames.
People get suicidal, and abusive, and often the mail admin must get your
account to stop sending mail to the list, before a huge mail loop
develops, and chaos ensues.
I saw this happen recently on an Australian list via ANU.
Invariably, the list owner is away on holidays themselves while this
happens ;)
Do yourself (and all email users) a big favour.
Dump vacation, learn how to use a listserver to send a "no mail" command
and email all your cohorts (once) and tell them
you are on vacation personally.
Vacation is the worst thing since sliced SPAM...
